The Poster Presentation on Charismatic Authority and Embodied Cognition in Ōmoto at IACESR 2026

I was delighted to participate in the International Association for the Cognitive and Evolutionary Study of Religion (IACESR 2026) Conference, hosted by Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic.

Organized by IACESR, one of the member associations of the International Association for the History of Religions (IAHR), the conference provided an excellent platform for interdisciplinary dialogue on the scientific study of religion. During the conference, I presented my poster, "Embodied Cognition and Charismatic Authority in Ōmoto: The Cases of Nao and Onisaburō Deguchi." My research explores how the embodied cognition approach can contribute to understanding the emergence and institutionalization of charismatic authority in the Japanese new religious movement Ōmoto.

Bringing together scholars from cognitive science, psychology, anthropology, philosophy, and religious studies, the conference offered an outstanding opportunity to present my work, receive valuable feedback, and engage in stimulating discussions with researchers from diverse academic backgrounds.

The experience once again highlighted the value of interdisciplinary dialogue in the academic study of religion and provided fresh perspectives that will contribute to my future research.

My sincere thanks to everyone who visited my poster, shared their insights, and to the organizing committee for hosting such an inspiring academic event.
